Drew Cooper is the General Manager for PacificSport Vancouver Island, based in Nanaimo. The Vancouver Island Centre strives to be that vital link in the sport development system that allows athletes and coaches to seamlessly move through the continuum from grass roots through to high performance levels.

A graduate of Simon Fraser University, Drew retired after a 21 year competitive rugby career that included the Quebec "National" Team and clubs on both coasts and in the US. He has coached 17 seasons in the sports of basketball, soccer, football and rugby and was a certified basketball referee for 4 years.

The opportunity to work in an environment in which it was possible to make a young athlete's dream come true was the motivation to work with PacificSport, and he considers himself fortunate to be surrounded by so many coaches, athletes and sport administrators who are also passionate about the value of physical activity.

Ashley graduated from Humber College with a diploma in Fitness and Health. Following her graduation, she worked as a personal trainer in Toronto for two years.  Ashley fell in love with the West Coast while visiting on holidays and moved to Kelowna in 2005. Ashley recently moved to Vancouver Island in May of this year to finish her Physical Education degree at Vancouver Island University.

 

Ashley’s goal is to move through the National Coaching Certification Program and gain experience working with a variety of athletes and coaches. She is looking forward to sharing her passion for helping others. She grew up playing softball, which led to three years in a softball league. Currently, she is on a dragon boat team and is learning to box. She also enjoys camping, hiking and kayaking during her spare time.

 
 

Catharine Edwards — Program Coordinator

Catharine Edwards is the Program Coordinator with PacificSport Vancouver Island.  In 1995 after 20 years of coaching in Ontario and New Brunswick, she uprooted her family and moved from Toronto to become the first Head Coach of the PacificSport Regional Synchro Swim Centre in Victoria.  After leaving PacificSport Victoria in 2002 Catharine continued with some contract coaching in BC, Hungary and Thailand then moved to Nanaimo in 2006. 

Catharine graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Physical and Health Education.  She is an NCCP Level 3 coach, NCCP Learning Facilitator Technical Synchro Levels 1 – 3, a Master Learning Facilitator at the Synchro Instructor & Introduction to Competition levels as well as a LF for the Making Ethical Decisions module.. Currently Catharine is enjoying coaching with the Nanaimo Diamonds Synchro Club and paddling on the Nusa’lon Dragons, women’s dragon boat team.

Liza Taylor is the Marketing and Communications Coordinator for PacificSport Vancouver Island. Originally from Terrace, BC, Liza has called Nanaimo home since 1985. She came to Nanaimo to attend Malaspina College where she received her Diploma in Graphic Design in 1987.

Liza has had a very interesting and diverse career path since finishing her diploma in 1987. She has worked in the role of a graphic designer for several design and printing companies, while maintaining her own private design company as well. In 2008 Liza took the position of Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications with the Nanaimo Clippers Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Club. The responsibilities of this position allowed her to implement all of her talents and abilities as she took on the task of marketing the organization, selling of the sponsorships, game day and community relations and the graphic design as well.

In June of 2010 Liza made the move to PacificSport Vancouver Island. Liza brings her diverse experience, wealth of corporate and community contacts and her creative, positive attitude to her role with PacificSport. Liza continues to maintain her private design company and enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing slow pitch and painting, crafting and cooking whenever she can.
