National Coaching Certification Program The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) prepares coaches for the responsibilities associated with coaching athletes of all ages and abilities. NCCP courses are designed to meet the needs of all types of coaches, from the first-time coach to the head coach of a national team. The NCCP is the recognized national standard for coach training and certification in Canada. As part of the program, all coaches are trained in ethical decision-making and sport safety.
Coaching Enhancement Workshops Coaching Enhancement Workshops are LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) referenced and have been designed to supplement the knowledge of certified coaches. Most workshops are 4 hours in length. Coaches will receive a practical program that they can implement with their athletes right away. PacificSport Northern BC currently offers the following workshops:
Sport Readiness (Learn to Train, Train to Train & Train to Compete) By nature athletes are skilled movers and are able to compensate for physical limitations in order to successfully execute sports skills. These compensations lead to increased fatigue and soreness, decreased sport performance and eventually injury. The goal of this module is to provide coaches with simple tools to help identify and address physical limitations in athletes in order to maximize the benefits of their conditioning programs and decrease risk of injury.
Introduction to Strength Training (Learn to Train) Coaches will learn technique and cues for body weight strength training programs. Coaches will benefit from this workshop if they are working with LTAD “Learning to Train” stage athletes. Each coach will leave with practical tools that will allow them to implement programs right away. Introduction to Weight Training (Train to Train) Coaches will experience first hand the exercises and cues to implement and monitor a free weight program for their athletes. This workshop will assist coaches in developing a skill set that will assist their athletes in building efficient movemetn patterns athat will assist in their long term athletic development.
Introduction to Speed, Agility & Balance (Learn to Train) The ability to decelerate, accelerate and change directions rapidly and efficiently is critical to optimal performance in any sport. This workshop will teach coaches some important dynamic warm up exercises and basic drills that can be incorporated into practices to develop quicker and more productive athletes.
Athletic Field Testing (Learn to Train & higher) Assessing and monitoring athlete’s fitness can be an important task for many coaches. PacificSport Northern BC has a field testing kit containing easy to use field tests for Learn to Train through to Train to Compete athletes. This workshop provides practical, hands-on training in testing protocols, procedures and proper use of testing equipment. Coaches will leave the workshop with a field testing manual and the ability to rent the field testing kit at a nominal fee.
Introduction to Video Analysis (Train to Train, Train to Compete & Train to Win) This session will incorporate an introduction to the biomechanics of human movement in sport and activity (Newtonian Physics, Ground Reaction force, levers, etc). Developing a first principle approach to identifying, understanding and quantifying forces involved in sport and exercise as well as introducing and developing the principles of forces, linear and angular motion and techniques for objective quantification. Lastly we will learn practical skills in biomechanical analysis using video and performance software.
Introduction to Dartfish Software (Train to Train and higher) This session will incorporate learning and use of the basic features and tools of Dartfish; including the library video organization, DV import and Export, Analyzer and In the Action.
