Mark Duyns - Vice Chair Actively involved in Minor Hockey since his two sons first joined the sport, Mark has dedicated much of his time toward sport administration for the past twenty years. A sales, marketing and administrative professional, Mark is currently an Executive Assistant to a local MLA in the Fraser Valley region. Mark demonstrates his commitment to his community of Abbotsford through many volunteer roles including Commissioner for Abbotsford’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission, chair of the Abbotsford Sport Council and a director with KidSport Abbotsford.

Hanna Barton - Treasurer Hanna Barton has a recreational sport background with a particular fondness for curling which was cultivated during her husband’s years of competitive curling. Now that her kids are getting older, she hopes to start curling again on a mixed-couples team. Recognizing that the Operation Red Nose program in Abbotsford/Mission was a PacificSport initiative, Hanna chose to become involved as a way to give back to her community. Hanna is a Certified General Accountant with her own practice in Abbotsford and 27 years of experience in public practice. She is a member of the Valley Women’s Network and served as Treasurer for the Abbotsford Spirit of BC group. |
Shonnet Allen - Secretary Shonnet Allen was an avid fan of her sons’ soccer careers and now enjoys watching them kayak. She became involved with PacificSport “to give back to an organization that has assisted my children. I also appreciate all the hard work, the values, and programming that is offered through the organization and feel I can learn more about the sports process by being actively involved.”
Shonnet runs a Home Care Assistance business, is a Supervisor at local schools and is actively involved in her church as a Youth Pastor and counselor to the Pastor. She has helped organize kayak events and volunteered with the Scouting movement for 10 years. |

Mary Jane Abbott - Sport Representative (Canoe Kayak) Mary Jane (MJ) has been involved in canoeing for more than 35 years; as an athlete, coach, official and administrator. She has been involved from the club level to the national level where she has served many terms in many capacities including president. MJ actively volunteers within the sport system at numerous events and in various roles including BC Games, Western Canada Games, Canada Games and most recently the BC Seniors Games. She is currently active in her community KidSport chapter and with the Operation Red Nose Program.
Now in the ‘Active for Life’ stage she enjoys paddling, skiing and curling!

Lori Bowie - Member at Large Lori Bowie is an area manager with the City of Surrey’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department where she provides leadership to the City’s sport, fitness and healthy communities initiatives along with managing recreation centres and services in Cloverdale. Lori has been involved in promoting active living, fitness and sport for over 25 years. She is one of the founding members of the Fraser Valley Water Ski Club, an active level 2 tournament judge and a past BC record holder in women’s trick skiing. Lori has a passion for enhancing access to sport participation opportunities and building physical literacy through foundational movement and sport skill development, particularly for less privileged populations.
Lori recently completed her Master of Arts degree in Health Promotion and Health Education. Her thesis work explored the benefits of applying a community health promotion model to recreation service delivery. Lori has a BSc in Kinesiology from SFU and is currently a registered kinesiologist.

Jason Brandenburg - University of the Fraser Valley Jason Brandenburg is a faculty member in the department of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of the Fraser Valley. His interests include the physiology of exercise and human performance. Recently, Jason served as a performance and physiology consultant for the Chilliwack Bruins Hockey Club. Jason is a fan of all sports and enjoys mountain biking, trail running, and skiing. |

Barb Schimnowsky - Chair, Financial Sustainability Committee Barb Schimnowsky was a competitive figure skater, track and field athlete, and participated in all school sports growing up. She transferred her passion for sport to her three daughters who became high performing athletes in their respective sports of soccer and gymnastics. Barb was President of Twisters Gymnastics Club for three years and it was during this time that she learned of Pacific Sport and became interested in the programs they offered to support athletes in their journey toward national team participation. Barb is a Certified Management Consultant and Managing Director of WestView Executive Search Ltd. where she's recruited leadership positions for a wide variety of organizations and also wrote the Human Resources Guide for Sport for 2010 Legacies Now. She is a Past Director of the 2004 BC Summer Games, the Air Canada Championship's Birdies for Charity Program, Surrey Public Library Trustee and was a founding member of the Abbotsford KidSport Chapter. In addition to her current Board position with Pacific Sport, she is also a Director of Abbotsford KidSport, Director responsible for membership of the Abbotsford Rotary Club, and a member of the Major Gifts Committee for Canuck Place Abbotsford. |
