Alexa Loo
Canadian Olympian
Snowboard

Snowboarder Alexa Loo was the first Canadian woman to compete at an Olympic Winter Games in the parallel giant slalom event. She joined Team Canada for the 2006 Games in Turin, Italy, and the 2010 Games in Vancouver. She is a two-time Olympian and seven-time Canadian champion in parallel giant slalom, and had three podium performances on the World Cup circuit.

Alexa is a member of the AthletesCAN Board of Directors. She also volunteers for the International Paralympic Committee as a seeing-eye guide. Alexa graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce and secured her Chartered Accountant designation in 1998.


Istvan Balyi

Long Term Athlete Development

Istvan Balyi is a world-renowned coach and educator. His series on Long-term Athlete Development (LTAD) and periodization has been published in Australia, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Since 1994 he has been the resident sport scientist of the National Coaching Institute of British Columbia at the University of Victoria. Istvan has worked with 16 Canadian national teams as both a high performance advisor and a planning and periodization consultant for major games. He has worked with athletics, alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, water skiing, men's soccer, men's and women's water polo, men's and women's basketball, whitewater kayak and others.

Istvan is currently an LTAD advisor for sports coach UK (National Coaching Foundation), and Sport Northern Ireland. He worked with 19 sports in the UK on LTAD, including the England Rugby Union, England Cricket Board, Lawn Tennis Association, British Canoe Union, British swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming,  judo and gymnastics. He is presently developing LTAD models with 17 Canadian sports, including Canadian Sport Centre Pacific.

Andrea Holmes
Canadian Paralympian
Athletics - Long Jump

Andrea Holmes is a Canadian Paralympian who was born and raised in West Vancouver. Andrea has represented Canada in athletics since 2002 and has competed on the BC Para-Alpine ski team since 2007. Andrea won a bronze medal in long jump at the 2007 Para-Pan American Games. She is a four-time Canadian long jump champion, three-time 100m champion and a Canadian record holder in high jump. 

In 2008, Andrea was a Torchbearer at the Beijing Paralympic Games. Along with her goal of being named to the Canadian National Para-Alpine Ski Team, she also aims to promote the Paralympic movement and motivate others to set athletics goals!
