NCI-BC Celebrates the 20th Annual International Coaching School
May 25th – 29th, 2011
Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence, Victoria, BC
This spring the NCI-BC celebrated the 20th Annual International Coaching School hosted at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE). The event was once again a massive success with thirty three coaches enrolled across the NCCP Comp-Dev Multi-Sport modules and High Performance professional development workshops, and eighty people in attendance at the annual Wine and Cheese evening social.
The Wine and Cheese kicked off with a very positive opening address from the Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Engagement, the Honourable Ida Chong. Wendy Pattenden, Canadian Sport Centre Pacific's CEO followed with an outstanding keynote on 'the Future of High Performance Sport in Canada' and the evening concluded with David Hill, Director of the NCI-BC at CSC Pacific honouring all of the International Coaching School participants, as well as the NCI-BC Advanced Diploma students, for their contribution to Canada's success as a leading sport nation. A key message of the evening was recognition and congratulation for the integral role coaches play in the success of Canadian sport 'from playground to podium'.
A number of exciting changes were implemented for this year's International Coaching School, including;
-
Moving the School to the month of May in order to target more coaches; taking advantage of the shoulder season for a variety of sports, where the winter sports have wound down and summer sports have yet to begin their competitive phase.
-
Focusing on the delivery of NCCP Competition-Development Multi-Sport modules targeted at coaches working with a range of developmental athletes predominantly at the Train to Compete stage of the LTAD.
-
Implementing a High Performance Coach Advance, offering a professional development opportunity in the form of workshops targeted at Provincial, National, Varsity and NCI Diploma Alumni Coaches working with athletes in the Training to Train through to Training to Win stages of the LTAD.
-
Introducing value-added working lunch keynotes featuring;
-
2010 Olympic Review | Dr. Kirsten Barnes, Mental Performace Consultant, CSC Pacific
-
Power-Sport Athletes – Optimizing Performance at the Cross-Roads of Metabolism | Dr. Trent Stellingwerff, World-Class Physiologist
Through a survey following the event, the NCI-BC have received very positive feedback from the coaches in attendance at this year's International Coaching School, highlighting that;
-
93% of respondants cited the ICS as excellent value for their investment
-
87% cited the NCCP module delivery as above average to outstanding quality
-
93% cited the High Performance workshops as relevant to extremely relevant to their professional development
-
100% cited the NCCP Comp-Dev module delivery as relevant to extremely relevant
-

The NCI-BC looks forward to building on this year's event to deliver another successful School in the spring of 2012, incorporating the feedback from this year and introducing new ideas and innovative coach education delivery.
