INTERNATIONAL COACHING SCHOOL 2010 INTERNATIONAL COACHING SCHOOL A GREAT SUCCESS A significant event for coaching education in British Columbia wrapped up this past week with several students earning their National Coaching Institute (NCI) diplomas. Coaches Allison Dobb of rowing, Gerry Dragomir of racewalking and Michael Clarke of Para-alpine each graduated from the NCI while 43 other students engaged in over 124 hours of National Coaching Certification Program delivery from 18 specialists. Four coaches successfully completed their NCI final presentations as the culmination of their diploma program. The event was hosted by the NCI-BC and Canadian Sport Centre Pacific at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence in Victoria.

Near the end of the week 80 people attended an evening social entitled “Developing World Class Coaches from the Ground Up”and heard a fantastic opening address from Minister of Healthy Living and Sport, the Honourable Ida Chong. Anne Merklinger, Own the Podium’s Director of Summer Sport, followedwith an outstanding keynote speech on the power of partnerships in sport. At the end of the evening Clint Hamilton, Director of Athletics & Recreation with University of Victoria was honoured with the Investors Group Sport Volunteer Administrator Award.

“After such a successful week of learning at the ICS, it was excellent to get together and celebrate coaching in BC with students, partners, plus our special guests, the Honourable Ida Chong and Anne Merklinger,” noted David Hill, Director of the NCI-BC. “It was also the perfect time to recognize Clint Hamilton’s dedication to sport in this province.” |
“Clint Hamilton has had an immense impact on sport in this province, and particularly the Victoria community,” added Wendy Pattenden, CEO of Canadian Sport Centre Pacific. “He is very deserving of this recognition; many sport groups have felt the impact of his contributions over the years.” |
Hamilton has given countless hours of his time to advancing sport. He is serves as the President and board member of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), and holds similar roles with the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA). On top of many other contributions, Hamilton is also the current Director of the UVIC Vikes Athletics & Recreation. There is no doubt Victoria is lucky to have Hamilton as he has helped further the careers of many local athletes and coaches.

The International Coaching School is an annual event funded by the Province of BC, the Investors Group and program tuition. The ICS provides programming in two main streams: development and high performance. |
